LETS GO Baby

YOUR FIRST HOLIDAY WITH YOUR DARLING BABY MAY SEEM NERVE-WRACKING, BUT BY BRINGING ALONG THE ESSENTIALS AND TAKING A FEW PRECAUTIONS THERE’S NO REASON WHY YOU CAN’T HAVE A FABULOUS AND RESTFUL TIME. LUCY TAYLOR CHECKS OUT WHAT YOU NEED.

If you’re planning a holiday with a baby or toddler this summer you might be anxious about the journey, the weather, the water, the food and any number of other things, but there’s no reason why you can’t have a great time with junior in tow. Babies are portable and, bar a few essentials, the most important thing to them is you.

If you are breastfeeding there’s no need to worry about sterilising bottles. The other good news is that you will be protecting your baby from the risk of dysentary, typhoid or stomach problems from local water or food. Saying this, most parents prefer to stick to Europe for holidays with babies and small children because this kind of holiday is less likely to require vaccinations which are not recommended for young babies. Your GP will advise you on this.

Mums who are bottle feeding will find that many countries sell pre-made formula, as well as nappies and wipes, which will make your life easier. Older babies who are now eating pureed fruit and vegetables can largely stick to their normal diet, whether you are staying in a hotel, self catering cottage or chalet.

While it may be tempting to bring the kitchen sink with you, babies and young children will find things to play with wherever they are. A beloved soft toy or blanket, a few blocks or books and mum, dad and siblings and baby will be happy anywhere.
